While FC Barcelona is going through a serious crisis, Real Madrid continues to move forward. At this stage of the season, the Casa Blanca occupies the 2nd place in La Liga, one point behind Real Sociedad, and dominates its group in the Champions League (9 points taken out of 12 possible). A rather satisfactory record despite not always very successful performances on the field. Until now, Carlo Ancelotti’s team is far from being flamboyant on the field. Carried offensively by Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr, the Madrid team continues to show gaps in the game. Within the Merengue club, there is little doubt that a renewal of the squad will be necessary next summer. And for this, the Madrid management intends to make room in its workforce and savings.
It’s over for Bale, Isco and Marcelo
In the Spanish capital, three cases are already settled. Unless something new happens, winger Gareth Bale (32), midfielder Isco (29) and left-back Marcelo (33) will leave the club at the end of their contract in June. The former continues to suffer from a string of injuries and to weigh heavily on the finances with an annual salary of 15 million euros. Real refuses to pay the bill for another season. The other two are no longer considered at the level to play for the Merengue, their departures will save about 14 million euros in additional salaries.
Hazard pushed towards the exit
Real is also considering sales. One of them concerns Eden Hazard (30 years). Plagued by numerous physical problems since his arrival in 2019 for €115m, the Belgian winger has played little and is now only a replacement solution for Ancelotti. According to Sport, the Merengue are hoping to recoup (only) €50m with the transfer of the former Lille man, whose salary is estimated at more than €20m per season. Proof that they are no longer under any illusion about him in the Spanish capital… Other elements will be invited to pack their bags. The striker Luka Jovic (23 years old) has not convinced and could leave for 30 M€, says Sport. Center forward Mariano Diaz (28), defender Jesus Vallejo (24) and midfielder Dani Ceballos (25) are not part of the plans for the future. In total, these four potential departures will allow Real to save nearly thirty million euros in wages. And to afford to complete several hot files (Mbappé, Håland, Pogba …).
